Baker awards scholarship to teen at AirVenture

Chase Harting received a boost for his flight training during EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Harting is one of the AOPA Foundation Flight Training scholarship recipients, and AOPA President Mark Baker presented him with a $5,000 check during the show.

“So Chase, I understand you want to learn to fly,” Baker said to the Minnesota teen as they talked in front of a Super Cub at AOPA’s tent. “Why?”

“What if the AOPA Foundation gave you $5,000 to help?” Baker asked.

"I'm gonna go fly as soon as I get home," Harting exclaimed as Baker presented him with a $5,000 check.

Baker encouraged Harting to stay focused in his flight training and said it would be one of the best experiences in life.

The AOPA Foundation has awarded 18 Flight Training Scholarships in 2017. The scholarships are made possible by generous donations to the foundation and help support AOPA’s efforts to grow the pilot population.
