California Aeronautical University and air show performer Vicky Benzing team up

Encouraging young men and women to seek aviation careers

BAKERSFIELD, CA – California Aeronautical University and celebrated air show performer Vicky Benzing are working together to prepare the next generation of aviation professionals. Appearing together at air shows and through social media, the duo is opening the eyes of young people to the possibility of starting careers as professional pilots, aircraft mechanics, and other aviation professions.

“Most students don’t even consider careers as pilots, because they think it’s out of reach,” says California Aeronautical University President, Matthew Johnston. “Through our outreach efforts we’re able to show students that becoming a professional pilot is not only possible, but a realistic long-term career option.”

Vicky Benzing, who dazzles air show visitors with high energy maneuvers in her vintage Boeing Stearman and Extra 300 aircraft, is a strong proponent of aviation and people pursuing their education.

“I am thrilled to be working with CAU,” exclaims Benzing.  “California Aeronautical University perfectly unites the two things that I am very passionate about, education and aviation.”

“When young people interact with Vicky you can see their eyes light up,” says Johnston. “She’s not only an amazing performer but a terrific advocate for aviation education.”

“Learning to fly absolutely changed my life,” says Benzing.  “It’s such a confidence builder for young people.  There are so many different facets and career opportunities in the aviation world that the opportunities are almost unlimited, especially in today’s world.  It’s very exciting.”

The University’s Mobile Flight Experience team appears together with Benzing at air shows throughout California. The University’s Mobile Flight Experience offers flight simulators that allow first-time aviators the ability to take flight in a highly realistic setting.

“Through this partnership, we hope to help many students realize their potential,” Johnston says. “Showing them what’s possible is the first step.”
