Dr. Perry Inhofe, son of Sen. Jim Inhofe, was killed Nov. 10 in the crash of a Mitsubishi MU-2B-25 near Owasso, Okla., just outside of Tulsa.
“All of us at AOPA were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Inhofe,” said AOPA President Mark Baker. “Senator Inhofe is an accomplished pilot and a staunch advocate for general aviation, and flying has been an important part of the Inhofe family’s personal and professional lives for decades.”
Perry Inhofe, a 51-year-old orthopedic surgeon from Tulsa, was piloting the airplane on a short flight from Salina, Kan., and had reportedly requested “immediate assistance” from air traffic controllers moments before the airplane went down in a heavily wooded area. Witnesses on the ground told the Tulsa World that one of the twin-turboprop’s propellers was not turning when they saw the airplane circle overhead just before it crashed. When they reached the scene, the airplane was engulfed in flames.
“I wish to offer my support and prayers to the entire Inhofe family in their grief, and I urge everyone to avoid speculation about the cause of the accident and await the results of the NTSB investigation,” Baker said.
