The FAA, in a cost-reduction effort, has discontinued direct-to-the-public subscription sales of paper aeronautical charts and related products. Nonsubscription sales to individuals will end Oct. 1. Current subscriptions will be filled until their expiration dates.
After Oct.1, sales of paper charts and products will be available through the FAA’s network of authorized agents listed on this page of the agency’s website.
Digital charts’ availability and distribution will not be affected by the action.
The FAA “is taking this action to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and enhance and modernize the service provided our customers and the aviation community,” the agency said in an online notice.
AOPA held discussions with the FAA about the chart sales action, emphasizing the need for continued widespread availability of paper charts through third-party vendors.
The FAA stopped accepting new subscriptions on July 1, but the publications remain available from hundreds of aeronautical chart agents, often at prices lower than those charged by the FAA, and with free shipping.
