Jeppesen introduces app for VFR pilots

Jeppesen's Mobile FlightDeck VFR application

The world of iPad applications is dominated by complete, IFR-centric flight planning and mapping solutions. Jeppesen is embracing a different strategy with its new Mobile FliteDeck VFR application.

The application is a digital representation of Jeppesen’s unique VFR + GPS charts that were released a few years ago, but never caught on. In this new digital platform, every chart in the country is available for $49 a year.

Jeppesen’s unique operating architecture means the application is fast and scalable. The company also developed the app to be easy to use by creating seamless charts. So when you zoom in on an airport, for example, the taxiway diagram automatically pops up with the airplane’s current position shown on the map.

Mobile FliteDeck VFR features flight planning, route rubberbanding, and text and graphical weather. A company representative said that even if additional functions are added, they will be basic and integrated along the same philosophy of ease of use.

The application is available now in the Apple App Store.
