The Goldshire Townhomes housing project that would have been located one mile north of Sugar Land Regional Airport, directly under the airport’s approach path, has been terminated. The community protested the development, and AOPA had expressed concerns in 2009 about the safety risks associated with building a residential development under the approach to a busy airport.
Sugar Land Regional, the fourth busiest regional airport in the Houston area, has more than 129 based aircraft and more than 85,000 operations annually. The airport also has accepted federal funding, obligating it to protect the approach paths and ensure compatible land use.
