N.J. bill to keep ethanol out of aviation fuel

You won't have to worry about accidentally topping of your aircraft with aviation fuel that has been blended with ethanol if Assembly Bill 3974 is enacted into law. The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew, allows aviation fuel to be sold and distributed in New Jersey without being blended. Ethanol (alcohol) deteriorates seals in aircraft engines and attracts water, which promotes rust that can damage cylinders and pistons. AOPA expressed its support for the bill to the Assembly Environmental and Solid Waste Committee, which is currently reviewing the legislation.
