Download Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 scenarios

Instructions:

The Microsoft Flight Simulator files are contained in a compressed .zip format. In order to access them, you must have an "unzip" program installed on your computer. Many newer computers have the built-in capability to unzip files, however, if you do not have this utility, or are not sure, first visit www.winzip.com to download the WinZip program for free.

  1. Click on the links below to download the .zip file containing the Microsoft Flight Simulator files to your computer. Make a note of where you save the files so that you can locate them later; saving them to either a temporary directory or a directory that you create is fine.
  2. Each compressed .zip file contains the two files (ending with an .FLT and .WX extension) necessary to run the Flight Simulator scenario. Using your WinZip program, open the .zip file by navigating through your file directory to the folder with the saved files, then double-click on a file or choose "Open" from the File menu. Follow the directions displayed by the program, then save the unzipped Flight Simulator files. These files must be saved to the "Pilots" folder found with the Flight Simulator program files. This folder is usually located on your hard drive at: C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/FS2000/Pilots/ (this may vary depending on your Flight Simulator installation choices). If you do not save the files into this directory, you will not be able to access the new scenarios using the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 program.
  3. Once you have completed unzipping and saving the scenario files, you are ready to fly! Open Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 and start the game portion by clicking "Go Fly." Next, using the menu system at the top of the screen, click on "Flights" then "Select Flight." You will then be able to choose the scenario that you saved. The AOPA scenarios are labeled: "AOPA - KFDK ILS Rwy 23", and "AOPA - KFDK Rwy 23 ILS- Night".

All the navaids are tuned and identified, and the autopilot is set to fly a coupled approach. The reported weather is 725 ft overcast, 1 mi visibility in moderate rain. The wind is calm. The published minimums for the approach for a category A aircraft are DH 622 ft. (325 ft. AGL) and 1-1/4 mi visibility. To start flying, press the P key.
