The problem for pilots is that software updates for most cockpit navigation databases often are issued before the effective date of the airport identifier change. These databases often update the onboard Loran or GPS with the new identifier before the FSS or ATC facility knows about the change. (The charts are usually the last place to look for a change to the airport identifier.)
AOPA is now publishing new airport identifiers as soon as they are received from the FAA. If you are having difficulty locating an airport after a database update, you can refer to this list to verify whether AOPA has received notification of the change.
If you do not see your airport listed, contact your database supplier. AOPA is aware of the following changes only. Your supplier may obtain information faster than AOPA; however this information should help a majority of members.
