About AOPA Airports, AOPA's Airport Directory

AOPA Airports, AOPA's airport directory has served hundreds of thousands of AOPA members and users for over 50 years through print and electronic media. AOPA Airports offers certified airport and facilities data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To complement the FAA data, the directory also provides users with value-add information collected from AOPA Airports staff, FBO managers, airport managers, certificated flight instructors, flight schools, maintenance shops, flying clubs, Airport Support Network (ASN) volunteers, transient pilots, local pilots, and users.

The core data in AOPA Airports is updated in conjunction with the FAA's 28 Day NASR Subscription; all terminal procedures in AOPA Airports are updated every 28 days in conjunction with the FAAs Terminal Procedures publication cycle. Value-add data such as FBO information, noise abatement procedures, and airport restaurants and attractions are updated on an ongoing basis.

AOPA Airports provides users with simplified versions (thumbnails) of taxi diagrams for all landing facilities with published instrument approaches. These unofficial, AOPA-edited diagrams are displayed in the directory's printable kneeboard format as an added value for users. All airport thumbnails are pulled from their associated Terminal Procedures.

AOPA Airports Data Licensing

AOPA licenses its AOPA Airports data to businesses and organizations. A few frequently asked questions are below to help guide you.

1. How often is the data updated? The business and value add data is updated in our database on an ongoing basis as necessary. The FAA airport information is updated every 28 days per the FAA distribution schedule. Most of our data clients receive updated data files on the FAA schedule as that is most convenient for development cycles.
2. In what format is the data delivered? The data is delivered as .xml files and the runway diagram thumbnails are delivered as .gif files.
3. Can you provide a sample set of data so we can evaluate? We can absolutely get you a sample set of the data. Please send us your full (legal) company name and primary business address, so we can get a non-disclosure agreement drafted. Once that is in place we can provide the data samples.
4. Do we have to commit to a year of licensing up front or can we cancel after the first quarter? Unfortunately, we ask that the contracts be for a minimum one year term for several reasons. Both the effort required to get your account and access set up, as well as the assurance to AOPA that the data will be used for accepted purposes.
5. We don't need most of the data listed. Can you offer a price reduction for partial records? Yes, we can develop custom pricing based on your needs.
