AOPA's Pilot Protection Services keeps you up to date on legal and medical topics that matter most to pilots flying under BasicMed.
BasicMed puts decisions about medical care back in the hands of you and your personal physician, who knows you and has an ongoing interest in your health and well-being. Pilot Protection Services has resources to help keep you informed and fit to fly.
If you’ve had a special issuance medical within the 10-year lookback period (i.e., anytime on or after July 15, 2006) and your medical status is unchanged, you should be able to fly under BasicMed provided you meet all the other qualifications, including being under the treatment of a physician for your medical condition.
BasicMed encourages you to have regular and frank conversations with your doctors, to arrive at an informed medical assessment and treatment plan if needed.
