Cirrus climbs past 9,000 pistons

To commemorate its 9,000th piston airplane, Cirrus Aircraft is producing a limited edition of themed SR22s.

The special-edition aircraft come in four distinctive colors, and the number nine is integrated into their graphics, logos, and embroidery.

The “lava” (orange) color and design scheme of the SR22T shown here was produced by Cirrus’s in-house Xi Design Studio, which develops custom schemes for individual customers, and paint firm Sherwin-Williams. Other special edition colors include “balos,” “magma,” and “Santorini.”

Cirrus is the world’s leading producer of FAA-certified, single-engine aircraft, and its pioneering use of whole-airframe parachute systems is credited with saving over 250 lives. Cirrus was founded in 1984 by brothers Alan and Dale Klapmeier.

Cirrus announced the latest production milestone and commemorative limited edition two years after celebrating 8,000 piston deliveries in 2021 with an eight-aircraft limited edition. More recently, the color palette was further expanded to include “Himalayan salt” as an option offered on the SR22 G6 in 2022.
