FreeFlight Systems announced at EAA AirVenture July 22 that it is providing Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast systems as part of a bundled package that Blackhawk Modifications offers to engine-upgrade customers.
An added-value option for Blackhawk engine-upgrade customers includes ADS-B Out capability that meets a 2020 ADS-B mandate for equipage as well as ADS-B In subscription-free weather and traffic information, according to FreeFlight. FreeFlight said it believes that collaboration with the turbine engine upgrade company will offer the latest in technology and flight safety in one convenient installation.
FreeFlight’s RANGR FDL-1090-TX Mode S extended squitter transponder, 1201 WAAS/GPS sensor, and a GPS antenna are part of a package that also includes a FreeFlight FDL-978-RX, a 978-MHz Universal Access Transceiver receiver that delivers ADS-B traffic and weather to the cockpit. Only ADS-B Out capability is required by Jan. 1, 2020, in order to fly in airspace where a transponder is required today; ADS-B In capability is not required by the FAA’s mandate.
FreeFlight said the RANGR FDL-1090-TX is one of the smallest Mode S extended squitter transponders available for general aviation aircraft. The system includes a panel-mounted controller, built-in altitude encoder, and a backlit LCD display.
