Summer soaring camp open to applicants

It’s every kid’s dream. Or, maybe every flying parent’s dream. Sugarbush Youth Soaring Camps bring kids from around the country to Vermont for a week of camping and learning to soar, and applications are open.

Weeklong soaring camps for youth aged 13 to 18 will be held this summer at Vermont's Warren-Sugarbush Airport. Photo courtesy of Sugarbush Soaring Association.

Warren-Sugarbush Airport is located in the Green Mountains of central Vermont, and includes expansive grass areas that make an ideal spot to stage a weeklong camp. This year the camp is running three sessions: July 8 through 14, July 22 through 28, and Aug. 5 through 11. The camp is open to kids aged 13 to 18 and includes 10 dual flights as well as daily ground school sessions.

Given the airport’s location, good weather conditions may give students the chance to experience thermal, ridge, and mountain wave soaring.

Kids will camp at the airport, and get the chance to play sports, visit Burlington International Airport, and more.

Applications are open through Feb. 20. Contact Tom Anderson via email or call 802-496-2290.
