Mark Baker to lead breakfast town hall talk
The Pilots, Planes, and Pancakes breakfast on Oct. 12 at the AOPA Aviation Summit in Fort Worth, Texas, has sold out, thanks to an overwhelming response by members. The event will feature a town hall discussion led by new AOPA CEO and President Mark Baker.
The event, scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m., will be held at an outdoor venue at the Fort Worth Meacham Airport as a part of Summit’s Airportfest, where dozens of aircraft will also be on display. Baker will lead his first pilot town hall discussion at the pancake breakfast, along with several key leaders from AOPA.
“We have seen more than twice the expected registration for this event,” said Chris Eads, AOPA’s director of outreach and events. “We have increased our attendance capacity to the physical limits of the venue, and are excited to share with our members this dynamic experience. At the same time, we know how important this event is, so we will be working to provide opportunities for others to participate in the town hall discussion who were not able to get a ticket to the breakfast.”
To accommodate the anticipated interest in the pilot town hall, overflow seating outside the breakfast area will be provided for a limited number of people, and ample standing room will be available for an unlimited number of individuals. The venue is outdoors, with the breakfast being served under a large canopy structure; the overflow areas will have a good view.
Individuals without tickets will not be able to have breakfast, but are welcome to take advantage of the overflow seating or standing room area to listen in and participate in the town hall discussion, which will begin at 9:30 a.m..
This year’s AOPA Aviation Summit will be the last for the near future, as Baker announced last week a new direction for AOPA events. “One of my biggest priorities is to meet members in venues that truly spark their passion. I want our members to make a personal connection with AOPA, and that is best achieved by meeting them where they fly,” said Baker. “We now have a wonderful opening to visit general aviation airports and engage pilots in a much bigger way that is also more affordable and accessible for members.”
