Pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and photographers are celebrating New Hampshire’s General Aviation Month by participating in a photo exhibition and contest that highlights aviation photography.
The contest has three categories—collegiate, amateur, and professional—so any photo aficionado in the state can enter his or her best image.
“The first, second, and third winners from each category along with a ‘People’s Choice’ winner will be printed for an exhibit,” wrote Steve Bourque, president of the Granite State Airport Managers Association. The prints will be showcased at Daniel Webster College, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, and the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, he added. The Focus on Aviation contest began March 1 and had received 160 entries by mid-month. A jury will select winners March 31, according to the online entry form.
Gov. Maggie Hassan issued a proclamation on Feb. 23 supporting GA and its many benefits to the state’s economy and local communities. She noted 11 charter companies, 23 airport repair stations, 17 fixed-base operators, and a flight school that all call New Hampshire home.
The annual New England Safety Expo scheduled for April 2 is a free educational event that helps kick off New England’s flying season. A series of seminars throughout the day will help pilots better prepare themselves and their aircraft as springtime arrives.
AOPA Eastern Regional Manager Sean Collins plans to display one of the association’s distinctive yellow Reimagined Cessna 150 aircraft at the safety session, as long as VFR weather prevails. Collins said previous safety expos counted more than 300 pilots, AOPA members, and aviation enthusiasts from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and elsewhere.
