Sam aircraft selling assets

All assets of the Sam Aircraft company of Montreal, Canada, are on the market for $100,000, including the lone, fully tested prototype that founder Thierry Zibi values at $120,000. It was the second time in 14 months that the company has announced the assets are for sale, although there was no price when the first announcement was made in 2014.

The dream to make a warbird-like light sport aircraft and kit aircraft began in 2009. With most of the  development work done, it could take an individual $300,000 to put it into production, but less for an established company, Zibi said.

The aircraft was named after Zibi’s four-year-old son, Sam, who is pictured on the company website.

The Sam is approved in Canada as an advanced light aircraft, and in the United States as experimental amateur-built. Zibi is remaining in aviation but launching a new venture that he said he cannot discuss at present.

The deal includes parts molds, drawings, actual parts, engineering calculations based on ASTM standards for light sport aircraft in the United States, pilot operating manuals, and flight test data. The aircraft has flown 385 hours. AOPA flew the aircraft in 2013 and reported on its handling characteristics.
