ForeFlight rolls out graphical briefing

Mobile flight planning tool provider ForeFlight says a new app component that converts standard text weather briefings into a graphical format will help pilots make better go/no-go decisions and change the way people fly.

ForeFlight Graphical Briefing is available in ForeFlight 7.4 for the iPad, iPhone, and online.

ForeFlight Graphical Briefing “transforms the standard text briefing information and delivers it in a visually elegant design for better readability,” and allows users to “tap through” briefing elements in a logical sequence, ForeFlight said in an announcement.

Translated and raw text options are available. The full-color graphics help pilots better understand and consume briefing information, which is derived from approved government sources, ForeFlight said.

“ForeFlight’s Graphical Briefing delivers the picture of meteorological and aeronautical information you need to minimize your exposure to adverse weather,” the company said.

Once retrieved, the briefing is available for review without an Internet connection. The briefing is time-stamped and stored “to record that you obtained weather and pertinent notams in compliant manner with 14 CFR 91.103(a) preflight action,” ForeFlight notes on its website.

ForeFlight 7.4.1 also includes an enhanced airmet/sigmet map layer and improved Track Log functionality.
