Cirrus SR22 named primary trainer for Emirates
Cirrus Aircraft announced a partnership with Emirates Airline to train the air carrier's future pilots with 22 Cirrus SR22s. The aircraft will be based at Al Maktoum International-Dubai World Central Airport for training in the Emirates' National Cadet Pilot Programme. "Emirates is creating a dedicated flight training center that showcases the industry's most advanced approach to pilot training in a fully integrated facility," said David Moser, vice president of Cirrus Aircraft's fleet and special mission aircraft.

Glasair's backcountry cousin
A kit-built backcountry-bound airplane available with convertible landing gear and foldable high wings would seem to have little in common with fast, high-performance kitplanes. Not so of the two-place GlaStar, which emerged from the same venue as the speedy Glasair kits originally produced by Hamilton-Stoddard, and was first displayed as a 125-horsepower prototype at the 1994 EAA fly-in. Kits shipped to buyers the following year. Engine and design upgrades including a floatplane configuration soon followed. In 2012, Arlington, Washington-based Glasair kit-aircraft assets were acquired by China's Jilin Hanxing Group Co., Ltd.
