Longtime aviation writer and editor Robert Goyer will lead Plane & Pilot, which was recently purchased by Massachusetts-based Madavor Media. Goyer, who was named vice president of Plane & Pilot and will serve as its editor in chief, said he plans to build the 50-year old publication’s reach, expand its Web presence, and create a strong video presence, among other things.
Goyer, who has commercial land and sea pilot certificates and a Cessna 525 Citation Jet rating, said the publication’s focus won’t change: “We’re a brand that’s all about the plane and the pilot.”
Readers may notice some new voices and faces in future issues as Goyer and Madavor invest in the publication to make it a competitor in the general aviation market. He said he wants to reach passionate pilots as well as enthusiasts and those who want to learn how to fly. Goyer said the magazine will be sensitive about the issues facing GA but will also reignite pilots’ passion.
Goyer accepted the position at Plane & Pilot after 20 years at Flying magazine. During his aviation journalism career, he received the 2012 NBAA David W. Ewald Platinum Wing award for lifetime achievement in aviation journalism and the 2012 Bonnier Editor in Chief of the Year award, according to a Madavor Media news release.
