Aerostar Aircraft, holder of the type certificate for all models of the piston twin-engined Aerostar, has introduced high-technology winglets that are compatible with all 601B, 601P, 602P, and 700P models, the company said.
The winglets enhance climb and cruise characteristics by reducing vortices generated by the aircraft’s wingtips, as well as the associated drag.
The Hayden Lake, Idaho-based company said a winglet-equipped Aerostar recently completed an “exhaustive” FAA flight test and certification program. The company’s own flight testing, conducted prior to the FAA tests by Aerostar Aircraft Vice President Jim Christy, demonstrated forgiving stall characteristics with aileron control “never lost during the stall,” and “increased safety margins with regard to stalling speed and minimum control speed,” Aerostar Aircraft said in a news release.
The winglets also are compatible with Aerostars that have been upgraded with more powerful engines and higher gross weights, the company said. The company is upgrading previously manufactured aircraft with the new technology.
