The AOPA Flight Training Experience Survey offers pilots of all experience levels a chance to provide feedback on different aspects of their flight training in the areas of educational quality, customer focus, community, and information sharing.

AOPA uses the survey results in two significant ways. The first is to recognize and present awards to exceptional flight schools and instructors; the second is to identify notable trends in the flight training industry. We also provide the direct feedback from this survey to flight schools and instructors who are interested in improving. Our online survey hosts examples of what kind of information these flight school and instructor feedback forms provide. The reports offer a great metric for where a flight school or instructor stands related to national averages in flight training satisfaction and give constructive criticism on how to provide better service and experiences.

To be eligible to submit a survey, individuals must be at least 14 years old and have received flight instruction in the past 12 calendar months. The 2023 survey, which has been streamlined to be easier to fill out, will be accepting submissions through October 31 at noon Eastern time.

Based on the feedback of the survey, industry experts—who are unaware of the identity of the school or instructor—will choose six flight schools and six certificated flight instructors from across the United States to receive recognition as the best in their region along with one school and one CFI who shine above the rest. The 2021-2022 Flight Training Experience Awards recognized Ambyr Peterson from Minneapolis as the Best CFI and In the Pattern in Denton, Texas, as the Best Flight School.

Visit the 2023 Flight Training Experience Survey and Awards webpage for more information on rules, the benefits of survey participation, and a link to take the survey.

In just 10 minutes you could help improve the quality of flight training for generations to come.
