AOPA Fly-Ins: Volunteers have more fun
A T-shirt, free lunch, and camaraderie
Volunteering isn’t all about hard work; it’s also about meeting other volunteers, seeing the fly-in from the insider’s perspective, and making friends and valuable contacts that you will keep for years. You’ll be proud to have participated, knowing that you did your part to support GA. Plus, there’s free lunch, an AOPA volunteer T-shirt, and cap for your efforts.
AOPA has lots of great opportunities you can choose from. A five- to six-hour commitment is all that’s needed. Here’s an idea of what to expect:
Airside operations
Assisting with aircraft marshaling, parking, taking fuel orders, directional guidance, and aircraft camping. Please note these are five-hour shifts involving a large amount of standing (bring a folding or camping chair). Because of the nature of this position, we ask that only certificated pilots above the age of 17 apply.
Showside exhibits
Assist with exhibitor load-in and setup. Duties include setting up tables/chairs, helping exhibitors carry boxes, as well as securing the Exhibit Hall and acting as Exhibit Hall security.
Showside logistics
Assist with general show logistics including setting up tables/chairs, moving pallets, placing trash cans, and other duties as assigned. This is a physical position and may require lifting tables, chairs, and boxes.
Showside food
Assist with food preparation tent setup including assembling grills and setting up tables.
Showside hospitality/security
Assist with greeting show patrons, signage setup, and entrance gate supervision. This position requires sitting or standing in one spot for a long period of time (bring a folding or camping chair).
Showside auto parking
Volunteers will be assisting with auto parking, greeting attendees, traffic control, and traffic direction.
Showside sanitation
Assist with keeping show grounds and venues clean, including trash pickup, and dumping (golf cart and gloves are provided).
Showside logistics/pack up
Assist with general show logistics, including breaking down tables/chairs, moving pallets, placing trash cans, and other duties as assigned.
