General aviation stimulates the economy by creating jobs and contributing to the GDP. In 2013, 1.1 million jobs in the United States were supported by GA. The economic output supported by general aviation was $219 billion, with the GA industry contributing $109 billion to the U.S. GDP.
The AOPA Air Safety Institute’s latest general aviation safety report shows that the number of non-commercial aircraft accidents dropped to a new low in 2014. The resulting accident rate—less than one aircraft accident per 100,000 hours of flying—is unprecedented.
