Midwest LSA Expo set for September 10 through 12

The Midwest LSA Expo will take place September 10 through 12 at Mount Vernon Outland Airport in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many aviation events to be canceled or postponed, but airport manager Chris Collins said the Midwest LSA Expo's outdoor static displays on the airport’s 10 acres and seminars to be held inside its corporate hangar meet or exceed the state of Illinois’s Stage IV guidelines. Social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizing, and good personal hygiene will be stressed, he said.

“Thanks to the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency, Midwest LSA Expo has more than enough [personal protective equipment] and sanitizer for all attendees, exhibitors, volunteers, and airport employees,” Collins said in a news release.

This year’s seminar topics include upcoming changes to the light sport aircraft rule; flying with Rotax engines; aircraft maintenance records; special-use airspace; sport and private pilot checkride preparation; and aerial adventures including a cross-country flight in a gyroplane.

Exhibitors include AeroPilot USA, Alto North America, Ekolot America, Just Aircraft, Rans Aircraft, Texas Aircraft, Magni Gyro, Magnus Aircraft, Vashon Aircraft, and Zenith Aircraft Co.

Midwest LSA Expo offers free onsite camping for airplanes and recreational vehicles, and a free shuttle bus is available to take visitors from the airport to downtown Mount Vernon for lodging and restaurants. Admission and parking are free.
