AOPA Foundation participating in Giving Tuesday

The holiday season has made its annual return, with its joyous gatherings and celebrations, and for many, a renewed focus on fulfilling the year’s goals for charitable giving.

Did you know that along with such holiday events as Black Friday, when holiday gift-buying helps businesses achieve profitability for the year, and Cyber Monday, a marketing mechanism to remind shoppers to buy online, there also is a global day of giving that occurs during the week after Thanksgiving?

That day—and it is growing into a movement—is Giving Tuesday, and this year it falls on Nov. 28.

The AOPA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AOPA, is a participating charity in Giving Tuesday, and is listed on the organization’s website as a resource for the annual celebration of giving.

The AOPA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations to the AOPA Foundation fund the initiatives of AOPA’s You Can Fly program that help pilots establish flying clubs; provide resources for flight schools; work to create high-school aviation science, technology, engineering, and math curricula; put on seminars to get rusty pilots flying again, and more.

Donations to the AOPA Foundation also fund the educational programs of the Air Safety Institute, which for more than 60 years has developed and produced free resources—from online courses and videos to live seminars—all dedicated to the goal of helping pilots fly more safely.

“Entering its sixth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration,” says the Giving Tuesday organization on its website, where individuals and organizations can find—and suggest—ways to become involved in the worldwide charitable effort.

Included in that effort are the charitable initiatives that help aspiring pilots realize their dreams, keep pilots flying safely, and widen access to affordable flying, thereby growing the pilot community.

Giving back to aviation through charitable giving is a treasured tradition among pilots, many of whom say they find it an ideal way to express their gratitude for the rewards that flying has provided them.

Joining the growing Giving Tuesday movement by making your tax-deductible donation to the AOPA Foundation at this time of year can make your charitable giving even more inspirational.
