AOPA Camarillo Fly-In Friday Workshops beckon
Pilots attending the AOPA Fly-In at Camarillo, California, April 28 and 29 can sign up for four Friday Workshops to deepen their aviation knowledge, add skills, and make flying more fun. Workshop options include a deep dive into flying over mountains and water, an IFR refresher, owner-guided maintenance, and how to best share aviation with a significant other.
Each of the all-day Friday Workshops will be directed by an expert in that field so pilots can be assured of current and correct information. The tuition-supported Friday Workshops take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and participants are required to pre-register to secure a worry-free learning experience. Tuition fees are $105 for members, $155 for non-members, and $75 for spouses. With four standout Workshops to choose from, the only trouble a pilot might have is deciding which to attend.
Overcoming Mountains and Water: Flying in the Extreme
Led by mountain flying expert Lori MacNichol and AOPA Editor at Large Tom Horne, “Overcoming Mountains and Water: Flying in the Extreme” will put pilots’ fears at ease and give them the tools they need before tackling a mountain flight or an extended overwater flight. Some of the mountain flying topics discussed will be effective planning techniques to maximize safety; understanding the dynamics of weather, water, and terrain and how they can affect flights over mountains and over water; and life-saving survival equipment, tips, and techniques.
IFR Refresher: Getting Back to Instrument Proficiency
The “IFR Refresher: Getting Back to Instrument Proficiency” workshop is designed as a refresher for instrument-rated pilots to help prepare them for the next time they face instrument conditions. Flight planning tips, rules, and regulations; weather decision making; and approach procedures are some of the topics that will be covered by Rainier Flight Service experts. The workshop provides tools and confidence for IFR-rated pilots who have not recently flown in instrument conditions.
Owner-guided Maintenance: Managing Your Aircraft Maintenance
Aircraft owners attending “Owner-guided Maintenance: Managing Your Aircraft Maintenance” will learn how to keep costs down and get the upper edge on aircraft maintenance. World-class maintenance experts Adrian Eichhorn, Mike Busch, and Paul New will share tips and secrets on how pilots can be the leader when it comes to their aircraft’s health. The three will coach owners through managing and guiding the annual inspection process, preventive maintenance, and “listening to what your engine is telling you.” Attendees will have hands-on engine and airframe labs as they physically work on an aircraft together, under expert guidance.
Pilot Plus One: Combining Learning, Inspiration, and Adventure
In the “Pilot Plus One: Combining Learning, Inspiration, and Adventure” workshop, renowned aviation travel experts will lead pilots and their significant others toward aviation bliss. The learning experience will show pilots how they can build great experiences, fun destinations, and memorable photography into unforgettable adventures worthy of sharing. Presenters include Pilot Getaways' George Kounis, aviation photographer Jim Koepnick, earthrounder Robert DeLaurentis, and companion-flying experts Jolie Lucas and Jan Maxwell.
