AOPA's new Airport Support Network Board of Advisors meets

Seven volunteers from across the nation, including Keith Craigo of Texas, Jim Johnson of Alabama, Euel Kinsey of Michigan, Elliot Sanders of California, Graeme Smith of Rhode Island, Adam White of Alaska, and Steve Wolf of Colorado, attended the event to discuss goals and priorities for this all-volunteer program that is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. 

“Whether it’s working with fellow pilots, airport managers, or community leaders, AOPA’s network of volunteers are key to ensuring that our nation’s airport ecosystem remains strong and viable for communities and pilots. We applaud the more than 2,000 AOPA member volunteers for their leadership and commitment to protecting and promoting these economic drivers for many small towns and communities across the country,” said AOPA President and CEO Mark Baker.

The board elected Wolf as chairman and Johnson as vice chairman. During the two-day session, the board members, in collaboration with the AOPA Regional Manager team, established priorities and developed a strategic plan to move the program forward.

As part of the ASN program, volunteers work with airport and community leaders to promote and encourage support for their local fields. Volunteers also provide valuable information by acting as the eyes and ears for the association. This service allows AOPA to be proactive in its efforts to assist decision makers on issues impacting airports. The group also discussed AOPA’s advocacy work in Washington, D.C., and in state capitols around the country.

The ASN Board will meet quarterly to develop additional recommendations for the association to consider so that the volunteer program remains strong and effective for the next 20 years.
