It has now been a month since new certification requirements for airline transport pilots went into effect on Aug. 1, and the FAA is taking steps requested by AOPA to help applicants locate the resources they need to pursue their training, said David Oord, AOPA manager of regulatory affairs.
Since the new requirements took effect, pilots seeking airplane multiengine ATP certification must take and pass a new Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program (ATP CTP) prior to taking the written (knowledge) exam.
The FAA has made available online a list of approved training programs and other information for applicants and prospective training providers.
There are currently only two approved programs listed, both provided by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and part of its degree program. AOPA is hopeful that additional training providers have applied for program approval, and that the list will grow, Oord said.
