Maintenance is a part of life for those who own and fly aircraft. Owners, fleet operators, and mechanics may want to try out these five apps that handle tasks from tracking fasteners to tracking maintenance schedules. These are not endorsements of any app.
Bolt & Nut Aero and Flights (99 cents in iTunes): This iPhone/iPad app is geared toward aviation mechanics who need quick access to the most regularly used aerospace fasteners. It provides a direct link to the most used fasteners, where specs can be viewed.
AvConnect Aircraft Manager for iPad (99 cents in iTunes, but subscription required): This app allows users to manage their aircraft from anywhere. Features include maintenance schedule, tracking, and reminders; automatic data-to-Web account synchronization; squawks and aircraft whiteboard; airworthiness directive and service bulletin notification; and expenses, tax preparation, and partnership splits.
iLog ($149.99 in iTunes): This iPhone/iPad app bills itself as an easier way for corporate and commercial operators to record data required by the FAA. It records flight and maintenance logs, prepopulating certain information. It tracks items including on-duty time, fuel, and other items required for the flight log. Once completed, it can be printed or sent electronically to an operations department.
SEA Parts Sales (free in iTunes and Google Play): Southeast Aerospace created this smartphone and tablet app to allow customers to search for product information, pricing, and availability on avionics from manufacturers including Bendix/King, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, and Garmin. Users have access to detailed product features and specifications, 360-degree product images, featured avionics promotions, and frequently asked avionics questions.
Flightdocs (free in iTunes, but requires a paid account): This iPhone/iPad app provides users with full-service maintenance tracking. Features include access to a fleet of aircraft; ability to review maintenance due lists; the latest airworthiness directives and service bulletins; and discrepancies for any aircraft in your fleet.
