Cirrus adds LED lighting

SR-series models for 2014 also have cosmetic changes

Claiming another first in its market segment, Cirrus Aircraft has developed an LED lighting system for 2014 models of its popular SR-series piston singles.

The lighting package, streamlined in the wingtip, includes navigation and anti-collision lights, along with illumination of night walkarounds that is controllable with both cockpit switches and a key fob. The flush-mount lighting package also includes accent lighting and additional forward-facing lights to augment the landing light.

The LED package leads the list of improvements for 2014, though a few other changes are noticeable. Lighter-weight brakes and tubeless tires are also among the upgrades, and Cirrus is offering a pair of new color schemes coupled with interior accents inspired by high-end sports car design.

“There will [be] no mistaking when a new 2014 Cirrus Aircraft is on the ramp as only Cirrus offers this innovative new mix of performance, safety and style,” said Cirrus Executive Vice President Todd Simmons in a news release. “We take our design cues from so many places outside of aviation and then work carefully with our engineers and artists to bring them into the airplane in just the right way. You can see the results of that thinking in these new colors, exterior schemes and most importantly the new LED lighting system for 2014.”

Cirrus announced at AOPA Aviation Summit 2013 that the first conforming version of the SF50 Vision jet is on track to fly in 2014, and more than 500 deposits have been collected for the firm’s first turbine. A deal that sold the company to a Chinese firm in 2011 helped revive the stalled jet program.
