Bonanza G36 now known-ice certified

Bonanza G36 owners now have the opportunity to make their airplanes certified for flight into known icing (FIKI). CAV Aerospace announced April 11 that its weeping wing ice protection system allows owners to gain FIKI approval through a supplemental type certificate (STC).

The airplane modification calls for the installation of wing and other leading-edge surface panels, a windshield panel, a slinger tube on the propeller, a plumbing system, and a reservoir tank. In all, the TKS ice protection system weighs 51 pounds without fluid and 115.4 pounds with a full tank of fluid. The system holds enough fluid for two and a half hours of continuous use. There’s also the choice of maximum mode, which puts out even more fluid.

According to the company, 300 other Bonanzas are currently outfitted with the system. The base retail price for the installation and STC is $47,500.
