Engine overhauler Penn Yan Aero announced that it is extending the warranties on overhauled and experimental aircraft engines, effective immediately.
A warranty that the Lycoming and Continental engines are free from defects in material or workmanship will be in effect to three years from delivery, or to the manufacturer’s time between overhauls. "That's it. If you've got a problem, we'll fix it. No loopholes, no double talk, no small print," said a message on the company’s website.
In a news release, the Penn Yan, N.Y.-based shop founded in 1945 said the three-year, 100-percent warranty on parts and labor "is supported worldwide and is transferable from one owner to another."
"Penn Yan Aero has overhauled thousands of Lycoming and Continental engines," said company President Bill Middlebrook. "We keep track of our engines and know how they perform.
"Penn Yan Aero has always led the industry with its warranty. And, we’ve always taken care of our customers. The new warranty offers additional peace of mind to Penn Yan Aero customers. It’s like the best warranty you’ll never have to use. And, we’ve extended the new warranty to all current warranties," he said.
As a point of comparison, in 2009 AOPA reported Penn Yan's announcement of discounts on Lycoming-powered Cessna 172 conversions to 180 horsepower that came with a two-year, 500-hour warranty.
