Santa Monica, Calif.-based Angel Flight West has announced that it is launching the Endeavour Awards, created to showcase public benefit aviation. Organizers say the annual event will be the “Oscars” of public benefit aviation.
The Endeavour Awards, scheduled for May 4, 2014, will be a red-carpet, celebrity, black-tie event to honor, recognize, and celebrate public benefit flying. It will take place at the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion in Los Angeles’ California Science Center under the wingspan of the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
The event will include major entertainment and a dinner designed to give awards in three categories, all covering those who support people and organizations that have committed resources and assistance to public benefit aviation through no-cost flights flown for humanitarian reasons.
Nominations for the inaugural Endeavour Awards will be announced in early 2014. Board members include Mark Wolper, president and executive producer of The Wolper Organization and chair of Endeavour Awards gala host committee; Bill Ayer, chairman of Alaska Airlines; Clay Lacy, founder of Clay Lacy Aviation; and Scott Parazynski, NASA astronaut and mission specialist on the Endeavour Space Shuttle.
